OS Upgrade Debian 8->9

We are running the talest 3CX (15.5.15502.6), originally installed on Debian 8. As from the latest update, we see the notification about OS Upgrade and a button to actually perform it:



Questions:
Do we HAVE to upgrade?
Does it really work this way? There is a bigger guide on upgrading, but here is just a button?
Can we switch this notification off?
Can we switch OS upgrade detection off?


There are quite a few differences in Deb9 vs Deb8 behaviour, so I'd rather refroin from updating. What do you think?
